The Monument to the Fallen Fighters on Kosmaj, completed in 1970, represents a synthesis of sculpture and architecture, realized through the collaboration of sculptor Vojin Bakić and architects Bogdan Stojić and Slobodan Medaković. The composition consists of five radially arranged concrete elements that open outward from a central core, forming a powerful vertical silhouette. Its abstract form, freed from figuration, relies on principles of modernism and brutalism, where mass, rhythm, and the relationship between solid and void become the primary carriers of meaning. The monument is carefully integrated into the natural relief of Kosmaj, using the height and openness of the plateau to establish strong visual dominance and a symbolic relationship between the memorial space and the surrounding landscape.
